The story of Be My Eyes starts with Hans Jørgen Wiberg. Hans Jørgen is visually impaired, and through his work for the Danish Association of the Blind, he learned that many blind or low-vision people used video technology for sighted assistance. He believed that it would be possible to create a network of sighted volunteers willing to assist, so that people with vision loss wouldn’t always have to rely on friends and family. And it turns out that sighted people are more than willing to lend out their eyes. Today more than 1,700,000 volunteers have signed up in the app to assist 100,000+ blind and low-vision users worldwide with anything from navigating unfamiliar surroundings to reading labels.
