Since 2014, Africa’s Voices has been on a journey to answer an urgent question: How would the world differ if the voices of citizens were listened to and acted upon? Based in Nairobi, with roots at Cambridge University, AVF is inspired by a simple idea: listen first, listen intelligently. We capitalise on digital and interactive media to curate engaging discussions that capture citizens’ voices as evidence and elevate them to the level of decision-making. From enabling 33,000 drought-struck Somali households to access cash transfers, to uncovering the social norms preventing girls from attending school at Dadaab refugee camp, in three years we amplified the voices of over 200,000 citizens. We aim to reach 1,000,000 by 2020.
